A Glimpse into Chandrayaan-3’s Journey

Earlier, ISRO captured the world’s attention by sharing images taken by the Lander Hazard Detection and Avoidance Camera (LHDAC) onboard Chandrayaan-3. These images, showcasing the Moon’s far side, were taken on August 19, adding to the anticipation of the spacecraft’s landing.

Chandrayaan-3’s voyage to the Moon has been nothing short of remarkable:

  • July 7-13: Preparation for launch with completion of electrical tests and launch rehearsals.
  • July 14: Successful launch into space.
  • July 15: Completion of the first orbit-raising maneuver.
  • July 17: Execution of the second orbit-raising maneuver as the spacecraft approaches the Moon.
  • July 22: Completion of the fourth orbit-raising maneuver, known as Earth-bound perigee firing.
  • July 25: Another orbit-raising maneuver is performed, setting the stage for translunar injection on August 1.
  • August 1: Chandrayaan-3 enters translunar orbit, with lunar-orbit insertion planned for August 5.
  • August 5: Successful insertion into the lunar orbit marks a significant milestone.
  • August 6-16: The spacecraft continues its journey in lunar orbit.
  • August 17: The lander module separates from the propulsion module, preparing for deboosting on August 18.
  • August 19: The lander module enters a 113 km x 157 km orbit around the Moon.
  • August 20: The second and final deboosting reduces the lander module’s orbit to 25km x 134km, preparing it for landing.

This mission highlights India’s growing prowess in space exploration, drawing global attention to its technological and scientific advancements. As we await Chandrayaan-3’s historic touchdown on the Moon, the world watches with bated breath, hoping for a successful landing that will mark a new chapter in lunar exploration.
